Who Is Beelzebub

Beelzebub or Beelzebul is a high commander of hell. The demon’s name is referenced in the Hebrew Bible in 2 Kings Chapter 1: Verses 2–3, 6, 16 in which he is referred to as a god of the Philistines. There is one script where Ba’al Zəbûb is translated as “lord of the flies.” This particular demon is also referenced later in the New Testament found in Mark 3:22, where the scribes claim that Jesus is using the power of Beelzebub to drive out demons. There are also three more occurrences of the name in the New Testament found in Matthew 12:24-27, Luke 11:14-20, and Matthew 10:25.

25 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? 27 And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 28 But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

Matthew 12:25-28

It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household.

Matthew 10:25

14 One day Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute. And when the demon was gone, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowds were amazed, 15 but some of them said, “It is by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons, that He drives out demons.” 16 And others tested Him by demanding a sign from heaven.17 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste, and a house divided against a house will fall. 18 If Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand? After all, you say that I drive out demons by Beelzebul. 19 And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 20 But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

Luke 11:14-20

And the scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and, “By the prince of the demons He drives out demons.”

Mark 3:22

Each of the New Testament references claim that Beelzebub supplied the power behind the miracles of Jesus. In other words, all of the good things Jesus had done were thought of as aspects of some demonic possession. It is for this reason that I have chosen Beelzebub as a mouthpiece for my message.

Why Beelzebub?

The people who were opposed to the righteous acts of the carpenter’s son denied them because of who they believed was supporting him. Much like today, where the good done by those who are following the blueprints laid out by the carpenter are seen to be like the deeds done by the demons of old. To be sure, some of those doing “good” might be merely claiming to walk in the path and maybe actually be servants of that dark lord. As claiming to walk in the way and actually walking in the way are two very different things. Nevertheless, there remains a great many who are undoubtedly walking the long and narrow path, doing good deeds only to be met with hatred and scorn. The mob all but casts them out like demons. They can not see the good for what it is but only as a perversion. In other words, they reject the right acts, not because of the actions themselves, If they were only looking at the actions and understood their purpose, they would surely be in support, but instead, they reject the goodness of the acts because of the people committing them. They believe the actions are not from the father of light but rather from one of the kings of hell.

Consequently, the mob turns from the way into the arms of Beelzebub. Who is all too ready to devour them. They reject the good they do not understand for the evil which they can comprehend. Their new path with its new creeds, commissions, proverbs, sayings, and maxims, drafted in the dark and accepted by the unruly mob, seem to be good and fit the facts. They seem to illicit justice and bring about the good of society. However, I think if you understand what they are driving at, you would instantly understand them as words directly from the enemy below.

What Are Beelzebub Blurbs?

In each of these blurbs written and attributed to Beelzebub, there will be an exposition of these dark and worldly maxims. You may quickly recognize them as famous modern slogans or as reoccurring events in your own everyday life. My goal is to expound on what those in the main call the common good and show that it may not be all so common and certainly not all that good.

Each passage is meant to be read while standing on your head. In other words, each passage should have a first message that is almost entirely false and a secondary message that is nearly the inverse of what is written. Whatever Beelzebul says, take the opposite thing to be true. He is lord of the flies and a prince of darkness after all.
